Tip 11: Organic Traffic
and Dealing With the Search Engines!
Search engine optimization, or SEO, is a vital part of operating a
website. The only problem with SEO is that most search engines
reevaluate website standards and switch the rules from time to time.
Why? Because they are trying to filter out the crap websites and give
those who deserve it, the highest rankings. Honestly, can you blame
them?
So, here's the big question....
Are you going to go around their rules and do whatever you can to get
to the top? OR Will you work with them and follow their rules and
guidelines?
I would go with latter, as it is much easier. Working with the search
engines, as opposed to working against them, will be much less
stressful for you in the long run. Basically, all you need to do is
find out what the search engines like in order to optimize your
ranking. Be careful though, because the likes and dislikes of search
engines can change regularly, so be on guard.
You should know by now that Search engines like high quality, unique
content; they don't want to see 100 websites saying the same thing in
the same way. So if you have that, then you're already ahead of the
game. They also like when websites clearly identify what the content
is. Google can't contact every webmaster and ask them about their
website. That would take forever, literally. So instead, they use other
factors to determine what your website and webpages are about.
Things like image file names, page titles, anchor text, meta tags, alt
tags, site maps, keywords throughout the page, and of course, the
content itself. All of these things are used to determine your ranking
and position in Google.
I could go on and on and on about SEO and all the different factors,
but I won't. There is a link below to my SEO E-book that you may
download for free. It should tell you everything you need to know about
SEO and what you can do to increase your Search Engine Ranking. Your

12: Start Building up Your One-Way Links!
Getting reciprocal links to your site isn't as important as some of the
other website traffic generating techniques, but it still helps out
quite a bit. You have heard about
reciprocal links before, you've just heard it as link swapping or link
exchanging. Well, that's exactly what it is. You give them your link
and they give you their's.
Find a few websites similar to yours and get in contact with the
owners. Offer each of them a link swap and wait for a reply. Most
webmasters are extremely busy, so it may take some time to get a
response. Then again, others may just ignore you completely. Most
website owners won't mind the request and they will actually be eager
to trade links; because the more backlinks you have, the higher your
website ranking will be.
Unfortunately, there is a catch. The search engines get more clever by
the day, so you can't just get 100,000 crap backlinks, get to the top
10 in Google, and get away with it. If the search engines can clearly
see that the reciprocal links are on websites purely for rankings, then
they won't be impressed in the least. As a matter of fact, your ranking
could suffer because of it.
Don't go crazy and try to get lots & lots of reciprocal links.
Keep
your efforts mild and build them up slowly. If you build them up slowly
and they look natural, you won't have a problem. To put it more simply,
control yourself and don't go overboard.
Link exchanging is just another building block of your traffic tower.
Keep adding more blocks and your traffic tower will get bigger
