Tip 47: Don't be a Clone. Be Original. Start Using Gimmicks!
You don't have to offer every 10th visitor a "Surprise Goody Bag" or
giveaway a Big Screen T.V to every millionth visitor. On the other
hand, you do have to do something to make your website stand out. And
that's exactly what a gimmick is; a way for you to give your website
some presence and get it noticed by others.
As I've told you so many times before, you have to use your
imagination. Your website isn't going to generate more web site traffic
all on it's own, so coming up with a memorable gimmick is one of the
best ways to get some attention. A gimmick can be anything from "A Joke
A Day" to "A Helpful Tip Every Day" to funny sounds that activate when
someone hovers over one of your weblinks. In reality, a gimmick can be
practically anything.
My only advice is that you don't let gimmicks overrun your website.
Just make it interesting and people will notice; you don't have to over
do it. Remember, most people are visiting your website for information,
not to be bombarded with tons of cheap gimmicks. Therefore, keep it
simple.

Tip 48: Don't Guess and Hope For the Best. Study Your Taffic Logs!
Knowing where your traffic is coming from is one of the most important
factors when it comes to website traffic generation. Although actually
studying the logs won't bring you traffic, analyzing them and learning
from them
will!
If you have hundreds of different traffic campaigns, yet no way to
track the stats of any particular one, how are you going to know which
campaigns are a success and which ones are not? Quite simply, you won't
know and you'll basically be working in the dark: you may get lucky and
find your way for a little while, but it won't be long before you run
into a wall or fall flat on your face.
Think about it. Every method you use isn't going to work. No, that's
not an opinion, it is a fact. Every technique doesn't always work for
every webmaster. Therefore, the only way to truly eliminate what works
and what doesn't work is by tracking where your traffic is coming from.
Luckily, you can easily do that with the proper tools.
The Good News: Most webhosting services provide traffic stats free of charge.
The Bad News: Sometimes the stats aren't as thorough or as easy to use as they should be.
The Great News: There's an excellent stat tracking tool that is used by
practically everyone and it's Free! It's Called Google Analytics.

Whether you use your webhost's tracking stats or not, I still recommend
that you setup an account with Google Analytics. It's a fre.e service
provided by Google that will allow you to intimately track your stats
and see where your traffic is actually coming from. As soon as you can
pinpoint where the majority of your traffic is coming from, put some
more effort into that area. You already know that particular method
works, right? So why not put as much effort into it as possible.
Guess work can only get you so when it comes to targeted site traffic.
So if your truly serious about your website traffic, you need to study,
analyze, examine, dissect, rip apart, and/or criticize your traffic
logs. Then, and only then, can you figure out the best way to create a
steady stream of web traffic. |
